Lesson From a Gas Station Restroom

Lesson from a Gas Station Restroom

After Thanksgiving, the gas station we stopped at was packed with waiting cars, four and five deep at each pump. The line outside of the women’s restroom was 20 women deep before even getting inside the door!

I took my place in line as number 21.

A middle-aged man in a t-shirt and jeans popped his head around the corner and said, “Ladies, follow me.” Out of the crowd, only two of us decided to follow the mysterious man. We walked down a hall, around a corner and then he took out a massive lump of keys and allowed me and then the other women to use our very own private restrooms!  I was in and out of there in 2 minutes flat. As I walked back by women’s restroom, the line of zombies was still there.

Silly as it may sound, this is a fine example of what God’s divine favor looks like. He calls all of us but few follow. Yes, it was chancy. Yes, he looked unlikely. Yes, it seemed a bit foolish at the time but doesn’t God’s call on your life also look foolish?

Follow Him and find favor.

  1. This quote from Graham Cooke was very fitting for me this morning in trying to follow the Lord - "When God wants you to go somewhere and He doesn’t tell you the direction, it is because He is teaching you trust. You have to trust Him joyfully. If you don’t do it joyfully, you will do it anxiously, which means you won’t trust! All trust must be joyful." Trying to 'joyfully' follow Him even though I don't know where He is leading our family but believing for favor in the process.
